The Committee concerned with affairs within the District of Columbia had petitioned for and received appropriations for a beach and bathing facilities along the shores of the tidal basin. The document that recorded the discussions of the amount of appropriations to be given and the rest of the details included this map. It is a product of the pressures Congress is under to produce a remedy for an increasing populationwith inadequate bathing facilities. This project further alters the primeval geography and local wildlife.
